To the king! and the kingdom!

One of the Legacy Baptist Church trademarks is the "to the King! and the Kingdom!" battle cry. The daughters of mine have taught Nathan to stick his hand /hands up in the air when he hears it. Sometimes he will just see Rob standing in front of the church and will giggle and shoot one or two hands into the air. At camp he was looking at the back of Robs head after he had passed by our table in the dinning hall and he shot up the right hand. While holding a spoon of spaghetti.

Passing On A Vision

Lately, I have been listening to Geof Botkin, from the History Of The World Conference and The Uniting Church And Family conference in St Louis. Gooood stuff! Tonight at the dinner table I brought up how we are in a battle. How our timeline that I have used to give a visual example of Our Story, God's story of his creation and where we fit into it is also the record of the battles between God's children and the children of this world.

I took a que from Botkin and tried to stress how this life is not a game, how it is a fight, a battle. How most of the world and God's family don’t see it for what it really is. We easily are side tracked to chase after the Americana dream of personal peace and affluence. I used an example from one of my war games where you don’t waste moves, even if you cannot do something decisive this turn you lay up, prepare and place influence where it can be brought to bear when needed in the future. I stressed how they are being trained to be a part of this fight and even today at there young age they are in the battle, when they surrender their heart to daddy, when they yield their will to mom. Whenever they move into the role God has created them for (which right now is about being godly young ladies), they influence the battle.

Later we started listening to cd4 from the Father/Daughter Retreat 2007 from Vision Forum. I have Beth get a nice desert for the girls as we have started to listen to them together, I try to make it a special time so it will stand out in their heads. Cd4 Botkin talks about his daughters, how he asked them to examine the culture and see what has happened to the women of America and give answers to the young ladies at the retreat.

"Dominion ordered Femininity"........that sounds so powerful!

"Women helping men fulfill their calling....verses... a women who wants it her own way, who wants control...independant and self seeking...."

They used the term... " battle raging around us".... can you see it? Can you hear the battle? It's being fought over the souls of your children and children's children. At Waterloo Gen. Grouchy had orders to try and keep the Prussians away from the battle between Wellington and Napoleon. In the far distance the sounds of several hundred artillery pieces were heard. Grouchy stayed put as he thought he was between the Prussians and the battle, but he wasn't. Exasperated, a junior officer declared, "General, we must march to the sound of the guns!" He didn’t and the battle was lost, his 20-30,000 men might've made the difference. We have been made for this fight. Will you?... march to the sound of the guns? Or are you gonna get some new remote batteries?

I hope all are signed up for the Uniting Church and Family Conference in Glendale next month. Come see if God will help you to see where one of the battles is being fought.

Today I got my copy of "All God's Children And Blue Suede Shoes" Christians and Popular Culture. It's from 1989 and until this year I hadn't heard of it.

From the backcover "this provocative book that shows how our thought, communication, and living have all been affected by popular cultures omnipresence. It should make us take a hard look at what we've accepted as harmless entertainment"

"Where did pop-culture come from? Why is it the way it is? How does it influence Americans in general and Christians in particular?... He see’s pop-culture as a culture of diversion, preventing people from asking the questions about their origin and destiny and life. Two aspects stand out- a quest for novelty and a desire for instant gratification...the illusion to set your own standard, you can choose, you are the master of your fate, you deserve a break, your worth it.

Aye, ya yi yi. Why do these statements feel so dead on. I think it is part of modern evangelicalisms resistance to God's Law. It removes the grey zones that I used to love and re-establishes God's Kingdom and claim over all things! We do not serve the God of full time Christian service. But rather the LORD God of all Heavens and Earth.

Father/Daughter cd set, updated, WOW!

I have finished the whole set now and am even more floored than when I first wrote about this set. It's almost a shame that it is named from the father/daughter retreat as it is possibly one of the best roundups of a biblical vision for the family that I have ever heard. There were many great specifics, details and just fantastic perspectives on the family, that's what I need, as I can be so dense.."Oh! that's what you mean!"

Doug gives a talk encouraging men to give a verbal, if not preferably, a book for daughters to look at spelling out their father's vision....After hearing these I am challenged at how much more I can do to prepare my daughters and son for there future lives. This set will give you ideas.

Both of Scott Browns talks were outstanding! Makes me excited to hear him in October, at the AZ UCFC conference. Go to vision Forum and get signed up if you haven't already.

Stop living for the present and start letting God use you as he has intended, you will never have another set of disciples that will ever be as attentive to you as your kids, ever! It's staggering when you really think about it. God has made the family to be the incubator for "future generations" that can follow hard after the Lord. I see it as two parts, guard like a tiger from your kids that which the world wants them to partake in, yes it can be done, unless someone holds a gun to your head there is absolutely nothing to make you let your kids swim in our culture, "dont they need..." boloney. "Isnt it important that they experience..." no. "But everyone else is.." let them, they have no vision, so long as Johnny doesn't get arrested and Suzy doesn't get pregnant their happy, if that's what you are living for then I feel sorry for you. Your wasting your life.

The second part is to pass on a vision, a Godly vision, something you and your family were meant to have, a purpose, something to be deliberate about. Living for the Glory of God. That's eternal!

This cd setwill help flesh it out for those who want to have something to live for.

I have to listen again, but this time with my yellow pad, to write out notes...

Father/Daughter retreat CD set from Vision Forum

Heads up! If you haven't heard the 2007 father/daughter retreat cd set, put it on your short list. This would be a great addition to any church library.

I have only heard 4 of the seven cds one from Doug, Scott Brown and 2 from Botkin. Outstanding to hear nuts and bolts on a biblical perspective for raising our daughters in a fashion to honor God, prepare them to be successful in God's eyes. I thank God I am fathering at a time when this type of vision is being re-introduced back into the church. I wish it had been modeled for me for the last 20yrs, but I am thankful that I still have time to make course corrections. If you have daughters you will be WISE and get a hold of these, and let God expand what your doing.

If you have sons you should hear these too and let God help you shape a model of what a marriage can be as your sons get older, there is great stuff for just married couples as far as hearing and seeing something that just sounds like it's from Mars but your spirit will just soar as you let God show, nudge you, to be the man you are called to be! There was much I saw that I can push myself forward with for my own marriage. Great stuff for working with my daughters and just fantastic material to eventually help my son see what is important in a women for the Kingdom. Catch a vision and let God help you build a family that will impact the nation. This stuff is armor piercing.

I'm telling you, we have been sold such a bill of goods, just garbage, and we live with this because we don't see anything else. Wake up and buy a vowel, start living for our King. Let it not be said of us that we are just locked into following a small God of personal peace and affluence when we have been made and called, to move forward in his view of life!!! It's the only life worth living, let the pagans settle for wood, hay, and stubble. Not us! Time is short if you want to let God use you to impact future generations.

If you think "my kids are too young for this" they may be, but as a parent you are gonna have to make up for lost time if you want to trade out the view of life that you have grown up with and let God engraft into you His vision. You are too old, and I don't care if your only 18, to let anymore water run by under the bridge. We can be building a community of like minded familys that encourage each other to good works and good deeds out of a desire to be obedient to our LORD.

The first father/daughter retreat cd set finished my initial course change for my family. (what do you mean? your church doesn't have the first set? get it!) The best part was my wife couldn't see it, couldn't catch the vision because of all of the years of humanistic indoctrination she recieved, the individualism and egalitarianism and I'm talking about what was modeled for us in the Church. God used that first set to open her eyes and we both continue to beg God to "show us more", that we may not discourage others who may be further down the road and as we do violence to the status quo to enter the Kingdom of Heaven! (I'm not talking about righteousness or salvation) The Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence and the violent take it by force! Are you having to force your way past anything? Old world views? Every wife knows how to maintain a level control over her husband and family, but is yours still doing it? These talks can help!

To him who has ears to hear, let him hear.....

get it now

God Forbid It !

Swanson talking about daughters...

Should We Kick our 18-Year-Old Daughters Out of the House - Living Alone in a Post-Modern Barren Land Monday, July 16,2007

Controversy strikes again on the Generations broadcast. The question raised on this program is, 'Should we kick our 18 year old daughters out of the house?'

Kevin Swanson carefully distinguishes between the normative and the exceptional and points out that the exceptional becomes the normative when the principles of God's Word are utterly ignored in the identification of calling.

While acknowledging a role for the unmarried state, Kevin cautions against an age of unaccountability and the lonely state imposed on us by a post-modern worldview. download mp3 or listen online Go here

More Family

I'm passing on another article from Back issues of Credenda Agenda. When I first started digesting some of this kind of Christian thinking, I thought I was reading something from Mars. It was most disturbing as I kept noticing that it all seemed more biblical than what I had just accepted as normal. Doug Wilson has had a profound impact on what used to be just so many stagnant ponds in my mind. Areas that I never thought about, let alone held up to the light of God's Word. You repent and move on rejoicing about the many pearls that He keeps revealing. Hallelujah!

Feminist Traditionalism
Douglas Wilson

Feminism has had far more influence on the church than we dare admit. But we sometimes assume that feminism has only made in-roads on the left wing of evangelicalism where mom has her career, and the kids are in the licensed hands of some professional caregiver. But feminist assumptions have surrounded us for over a century, and serious compromises have been made with this ideology among "traditionalists" as well. Of course, these compromises are not openly acknowledgedtraditionalists certainly consider feminists to be with the enemy. Nevertheless, in a perverse way, one key tenet of feminismthat society has the right to define femininityhas somehow been enshrined as a traditional value...

...Difficulty often arises from our refusal to understand the hierarchical, anti-egalitarian nature of all human society. The Bible does not teach that women are to submit to men; it teaches that a wife is to submit to her own husband. Far from requiring general submission of a woman to men, this is a prohibition of such general submission . A woman who submits to her husband will be protected, by definition, from any attempted exercise of authority by other men. Moreover, if her husband is a leader, she has incredible influence over other men through her relationship to her husbandwhether for evil (1 Kings 21:5-7) or good (Est. 9:13)....

...both men and women should marry wisely, and to the glory of God.

Godly Definitions...Family

This is from Rushdoony's book "Salvation and Godly Rule" It was posted at Chalcedon's blog. Two yrs ago I did not see the family like this, now I work towards it. Modern believers would find many things to take offense with...but it would not be because they think the Bible teaches something else. What convictions are forming your family's identity ? Or are you just being swept along?

The Biblical Family

"The family cannot be limited to the modern atomistic family, those living under one roof as husband, wife, and children. The marriage unit of husband and wife is the nuclear family, but it is not the sum total of the family. To illustrate: on the one hand, a family with three children, nominally religious, is in no sense Christian nor an area of dominion. Each member goes his own way: there is no sense of any moral responsibility to God or to one another, nor to the grandparents. This is a marriage and a family, but in a biological sense and a legal sense, not in a Christian or moral sense, in that even adultery and fornication are tolerated within limits.

In another case, the family has three children, two sons, and one daughter. A son and daughter have never married; all three children reside some distance from home. They are, however, a godly family. The parents are supported in retirement by the unmarried son and daughter, with help from the other son. The married son was helped through the university by his brother and sister. The family has helped other relatives, and some friends as well, and, while absent from their small town home, have been important in aiding some Christian causes therein. All three children are exercising dominion under God, and all three have a strong sense of family. The daughter, nearing retirement herself, has more of a family life in her effect on other families, and the love she has earned, than the lawless mother in the first family. In the first family, family life means little more than a legal sexual relationship and life under one roof, an essentially biological concept of family life. In the second family, family life is a form of social organization with theological premises, so that it exists and governs where no sexual relationship exists...

"The family in Biblical law controls three central areas of life, the control of which governs society. And institution or agency which controls children, property, and inheritance is the determining agency in any society. Not surprisingly, the modern state, in its totalitarian designs, has invaded all three areas in varying degrees, by means of property taxes, inheritance taxes, statist schools, and laws limiting the jurisdiction of the family. The state seeks to be the new family of man."
~ R. J. Rushdoony, "Marriage and the Family," from Salvation and Godly Rule.

Visionary Daughters

The Botkin daughters book, "So Much More" was great, I found the addendem interview with their father worth the price of the book alone. This letter they recieved speaks to how God is using this book to reach the hearts of young women. It is from their website

Thanks For So Much More Posted October 28, 2006, by Anna Sofia

One of the most exhilarating rewards of having published a book is receiving letters of encouragement and thanks, and testimonies of hearts turned toward home and family. Below is one of the letters we’ve received lately.

Dear Anna Sofia and Elizabeth,
I am a fifteen-year-old girl from _____, and I have your book “So Much More.” I have read it, and I enjoyed every minute of it! It helped my vision as a daughter and a sister of five (and soon to be six!), and it taught me so much.

All my life my mother has taught me and my sisters to be keepers of the home for God’s glory. I was always fine with the idea until I turned twelve and started to get my own opinions. I slowly began to stray from my mother’s and father’s vision for me and my sisters. I began to pursue my own ideas......
