Kitchen Sink Bailout Bill: What Started as 3 Pages Is Up to 451 Pages
...The leadership in the House will try to persuade 20 or 30 anti-bailout Congressmen who are facing tough election campaigns to go home and skip the vote on Friday. That way, the bill can pass. The Congressmen who voted no and went home can say, "I voted against this bill."
How could they pack 350 pages of detailed legislation into one bill in just three days: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday? This, on top of the House's 100 pages? How could they have throught through all this? They didn't. They are inserting years of "let's take control" plans into one grab-bag of regulation and centralization.
The banking lobbiests for the big banks will have provided rules for gaining more power over smaller local banks. I am guessing, of course. No one has had a chance to read this bill, including any Senator. As former California state senator Bill Richardson titled his book, What Makes You Think We Read the Bills?...
