A Brave New World

In an unforseen move this week, the federal reserve, on its own, expanded its role from the guardian of the bank system to also be the fairy godmother of wallstreet.

Out of the blue, they doled out billions to wall street financial firms in what they hope is a gigantic "do over." This amongst the other recent never ending streams of never done before fed moves just screams out that there is some serious, SERIOUS, sweating going on at the upper levels over our financial system.

So before too many people go "can they do that" and "is this legal" and "who gave them this authority", I hear on monday that they will be scrambling on capital hill to make this look, seem, tidy-er, than it has been.

No matter what the fed, and all the kings horses and all the kings men, it will not stay Gods hand from directing the course of nations.

"Heartstrings",DVD

We watched "Heartstrings" tonight. Bravo!

In the beginning God created Fathers and Sons....this was just a awesome show. One of the winners from Vision Forums San Antonio film Festival this year.

Just a great picture of trying to recover Gods multi-generational vision for families. The whole family loved it.

I think it also demonstrates well what Botkin has tried to show is possible with the medium. Unlike the movie "Flywheel" that did illistrate some truths about God, along the way it also distorted, i think badly, many other facets of the christian walk.

This DVD is just so much deeper and had no "If only's" or "too bads".

Cannot wait to show it to my father! 54 minutes long, get your hands on a copy.

Transitional Times

We went deep into the evening discussing Gods word with some old believing friends last night. They made a comment "we have left....but we havent arrived..." It says it very well. In the days and years to come, there are gonna be many who will see that "this is not where we should be..." and those of us further down the road will need to remember that the word says, line upon line, precept upon precept, and will need to be patient.

In no way can we modify what God has declared to be or how he wants life lived, so that the gospel might be easier to swallow. Thats what put us in this cul-de-sac. We must be un-compromising in being a faithful witness to what Gods word instructs,to the standard, helping people to leave, (where they shouldnt be) but realizing that we have not arrived yet either.

Self-consciously and Intensely Committed

A statement from Kevin Swansons book the "The Second Mayflower" got me thinking...

One item that really jumped out at me in chpt 1 is where Swanson notes from page 7...But one thing is certain: historys direction has always been changed by small minorities of men and women who are self-consciously and intensely committed to either what is right or what is wrong, and remain so committed for generations(lev26:3,8 and deut 32:30)...

Otto Scott has made the point that 10 men who are willing to die for their convictions will be able to control much larger numbers of men.

By 150 yrs ago most Christians lost a self-conscious and intense commitment to live by Gods law.

One hundred yrs ago, those who despise God, made a self-conscious and intense commitment to live by and implement a humanistic vision for all of life. Where the terms for life would be based on what man thought was right. They saw the only way to do this society wide was to get control of the schools and change how future generations view life.

They first created the most prestigious teacher training center they could “Columbia” ( university I believe) and then sent out their disciples .

So in large part Evangelicals set aside Gods Law and focused on getting people saved and became “unconcerned about the affairs of this world” in violation of Gods first commandment and his dominion directions and Christs last instructions to make disciples of all nations, teaching whatsoever I have commanded you.

Instead of a self-consiously and intensely asking “ What does God want?” over every area of life, We said God doesn’t care about this stuff.

The Christians greatly narrowed their self-conscious and intense commitment to that of getting men saved. The atheists self- consciously and intensely expanded their vision to all of life. “We will define life in our image.”

Humanism is now the coin of the realm, even in most Christian circles. Gods law seems strange and scary to most believers.

What are we self-conscious and intense about?

Whats a Grognard?

During the Napoleonic wars Napoleon swept accross europe like white on rice. All the way deep into Russia. Amazing.

A part of his army was called "the Guard". These were his elite troops, his best fighters. They consisted of infantry, cavalry and even artillery.

The Young Guard was just that, younger veteran troops. There was a Middle Guard and then his most experienced, disciplined men were the Old Guard. These men had campained with Napoleon the longest, through Egypt,Italy and into Russia. And they were Older.

They did tend to grumble but they would go anywhere and do anything for him.

He affectionately called them "the Old Grognards", old grumblers.

The second Mayflower

Kevin Swansons book The Second Mayflower is available. So far it has been good. Will start reading this one to the whole family at mealtimes I think.

The thrust of this book is in the same direction that God has been blowing many of us.

As God always goes from the larger over arching context of something and then will instruct on the details afterwards. It keeps the subject in context. Gods context. You can call that truth. The world specializes in teaching, examining, and probing with no context at all. Without Gods context man gets to go crazy defining everything as he wishes. A great example of God doing this is in Genesis.

I am hoping this book will be another great context provider. It deals with history, the rise and fall of nations , the city of man and the city of God, and what Gods people should be about, through it all. Without the big picture, which comes from using the whole bible, we will find ourselves waiting for the bus to come and pick us up.

We are called to give our little ones Gods context on everything. When I say little ones that’s any offspring you have, of any age. Its also the new believers in our fellowships, they too must be shown, so that they can see the purpose of, and be deliberate in, the teaching of their families when the time comes. And for us old Grognards….we have some major catching up to do.

I don’t want to just sit here and cry about how many evangelicals are looking at and finding deep meaning in the sock lint in between their toes. How much time has been lost as Gods purpose for his people is thought of as, another program about us. Lord open our eyes!

Again I can now see this puzzle Im doing has ten thousand pieces. I thought it had about a thousand. I have been using the wrong box lid and so I know that I have a lot of pieces that will have to come back apart. But I will rejoice and be glad for Gods revelation. Hallelujah! And I will not be quiet. We must understand what is happening, and declare Gods truth from his word to the world around us. We must be busy discipling.

I am also joyful that I am in the company of others who are giddy about finding the lost lid of the puzzle box, thanks guys!

You know what context is really good for? When the details of life seem overwhelming and your stupidity keeps tripping you up, you can remember that it is all small potatos compared to what God is doing. You can remember what is really important, you can keep your eye on the prize, the goal. If you think that heaven is the prize, your wrong. Gods glory is the prize and us being about his dominion work is how we add to it. Everything else is so much noise.

Making fun of the Federal Reserve

This column made fun of the federal reserve, but also illistrated well what it does. Funny and sobering at the same time.

....The Chef of the Federal Food Reserve will be appointed by the President. He will oversee the Food Open Market Committee (FOMC), which will use Federal Reserve Noodles to purchase real food items on the market. The FOMC will also have the power to "foodetize" past-sell-date food issued by foreign dictators, subprime mortgage food from the back of the freezer, or any other indigestible object, possibly including Twinkies (when the needed technology is developed).

The Federal Food Reserve will also regulate the Food Banks. Food Banks will be allowed to issue ten or more times as many Federal Reserve Noodles as they actually have in their reserve refrigerators. If it turns out that the "reserve" food has spoiled (become "subprime"), the Food Reserve will simply issue more FRNs to the bank in exchange for the former reserves (the subprime tranches, I mean cuts, will simply be "eaten" by the taxpayers). This will make Federal Reserve Noodles more and more plentiful as time goes on...

The New Pointed to the Old

(Special thanks to Kevin Swanson. As God used him at the UCFC conference in oct to open my eyes to the truth about 2 Tim 3:15-17)

In both of the following passages, God, through his servant Paul, shows the correct perspective on how to think and understand about what is really in the Old Testament. Now both passages can now be expanded to include the NT. But when God had this written to Timothy “the word of truth” and the “holy scriptures” and “ all scripture are given by inspiration….etc etc” would mean the Old Testament. As there was another 300yrs before the New Testament would be cannonised.

2 timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 timothy3:15-17 but you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them. And that from childhood you have known the holy scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Now God starts up his new church through his Son with only the Old Testament as his written witness. Now a short time ago I just thought it was God showing how he can do so much, with so little, because well, he is God.

But now I understand that when he gave us his son he had already given his “word of truth”.

With the Old testament we already had the “holy scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus”. And with the Old Testament his people could… be complete and thoroughly equipped for every good work!

Jesus death and resurrection changed the relationship between God and man. But Gods master battle plan was already in place. Christs arrival didn’t change the basic instructions from God to man. But now we gain access to the Author and finisher of our faith. And how!

2 timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
This passage commands us to to be able to rightly handle the word of truth, so we won’t be ashamed. So if I am not confident handling Gods Law, statutes and precepts I might find myself ashamed?

2 timothy3:15-17 but you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them. And that from childhood you have known the holy scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Now again if I am not rightly dividing Gods Laws, statutes and precepts from the Old Testament, this passage causes me to question whether I am “complete” and “thoroughly equipped for every good work.” Rats!!!

During the last 50yrs (last 20 for sure) When someone gets saved what would happen?

We do what? (im excepting our current fellowships, but modern churchs in general) we would Try to help them with what will seem like their most pressing areas and, where they need help the most.

After that, when they seem less wobbly they are placed someplace where they can minister to some one else. That was the pattern I saw.

But when do we go back and cover the Old Testament, and lay the foundation that God established…for doctrine, for reproof, for instruction in righteousness , that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Oops.

I can now see that my New Testament understanding has been built on a foundation of Humanistic Americana . This just stinks. As now I have to check everybodys I.D. in all my thinking process’s. How my brain thinks must be brought captive to the word of God. I can only do this if I am willing to use All of Gods word. Otherwise it will seem that Gods word is silent on so many issues. Does anyone really believe that there is any subject in all the universe that God doesnt have an opinion on. Exuse me, how about any subject he doesnt have the foundational truth of.

A New Testament understanding, minus a solid foundation of the Old Testament, will leave you with a New Testament understanding…. possibly very different than the one God intended? Just thinking out loud....so no one shoot me.

We Were on Drugs

The family was reading in the book of joel tonight. you know in the Old Testament.....

chpt2:12,13 "now therefore" says the lord " turn to me with all your heart with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning" So rend your heart and not your garments: return to the Lord your God...

Today still most modern christians think that the Old Testament was about externals and the New Testament is about internals, the heart. We must of been smoking crack.

Humble Yourself Beneath the Mighty Hand of God

Recently the fed rehired 26 ex employees who specialised in bank failures. At the time they said it was no big deal. Today I saw it announced that the fed is adding 140 workers to the bank failure division.

It would be like the federal government to add 166 new workers onto the payroll when there is nothing for them to do. But I dont think that will be the case.

God has a way of bringing low everything that exalts itself against th glory of God. With our nation you have to wonder, where he will start. Or should it be "what will he bring low next". Our government is just so ready to be made low.

If You Dont Know the Past...

As modern evangelicals we are fairly easy to manipulate. This whole multiculturalism ia a vulnerable area for us because we know very little of real American history. If you dont know what happened in the past then someone can tell you of a false history and say "its our heritage".

No, America's never been a multicultural society By Michael Medved

...Despite this dismal and consistent record, the fervent fans of multi-culturalism insist on an odd extreme of American exceptionalism: characterizing the United States as the one nation in history that’s strengthened, rather than threatened, by simultaneously sustaining distinct, disconnected cultural identities within its borders. According to the politically correct orthodoxy, we’ve always been a diverse collection of numerous nationalities with no single, unifying American culture. This notion implicitly rejects our national motto: “E pluribus unum” --- “out of many, one” – suggesting that the famous melting-pot never functioned as advertised. In place of the old idea of immigrants from everywhere blending their disparate backgrounds into something new, united and definably American, we now trumpet the ideal of distinct races and nationalities that flourish in their separate glory. The multi-culturalists love to talk about the Untied States as a gorgeous, colorful, multi-faceted mosaic, comprised of thousands of different but still distinctive tiles, or a complex tapestry with diverse scenes and styles in which no particular threads manage to predominate.

This description arises from irresponsible lies about the origins and history of the nation—distortions that require clarity and correction...entire article here

Rightly Dividing What?

Jason wrote…
"…One of the most important ways for us to limit the power of the state is to make disciples of our children…. "

Amen and amen, its also sweet , that in that process of discipling our children we become obedient to God in his command to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The bonus is we also clip the wings of the state.

Francis Shaeffer wrote in his “how shall we then live” project “… a second reason why the Christians were killed: no totalitarian authority nor authoritarian state can tolerate those who have an absolute by which to judge the state and its actions. The Christians had that absolute in Gods revelation. Because the Christians had an absolute, universal standard which to judge not only personal morals but the state, they were counted as enemies of totalitarian Rome and were thrown to the Beasts…”

If as a modern Christian we are only versed in handling the New Testament we will not have that absolute standard with which to judge “not only personal morals but the state”. Because that, God had already lain down in the OT.

Don’t forget those first century,(2nd century,3rd century Christians) didn’t have the New Testament assembled yet. But Paul doesn’t sound at all concerned or apologetic to Timothy … bummer Timothy you only have the OT to work with….when he admonishes him … continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of….2tim3:14 , which would have been OT teaching.

And in 2tim2:15 to be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth… Is that what we think of when we hear that phrase? When you think of “rightly dividing the word of truth” do you feel competent to apply Gods law to our culture and society around us? Paul wasnt talking about the NT, although it also applies to it no doubt.

So we can know that we are approved to God ( that sounds good!) by rightly dividing Gods statutes, precepts, and Law.

Then the state will worry about Christians.

Swanson in his pragmatism message nailed it perfectly, the OT is Gods basic package, the foundation for our worldview to understand everything. If you try to walk as a Christian without that foundation you will not be threat to any State and be reduced to just another believer boxed in by Christian moral relativism. “…don’t want to say anything that would be judgmental…” even though we are commanded by God to judge rightly.

Because most of us were never discipled in that OT foundation which includes Gods Law, it leaves so many modern believers as eunuchs, unsure of ourselves and just clueless at what is happening around us.

"…It is God's plan for the family to have full control of its children and its property…"

Amen amen some more….

Pin the tail on Greenspan Where it Belongs

From Lew Rockwell again. The warnings that Greenspan speaks of have still not really happened.

'Oh, Magoo, You’ve Done It Again!'
by Frederick Sheehan

Alan Greenspan’s instinct for self-exculpation reached new heights in the March 17, 2008, Financial Times. In "We Will Never Have a Perfect Model for Risk," he writes a model essay intended to eliminate risk – the risk he might be held accountable for the imploding banking system that he failed to regulate. Nowhere would the reader glean the author had a hand in the topics he speaks of with such authority. Nowhere would the reader detect a hint that the practices and models the former Federal Reserve chairman now condemns were once either blessed or ignored under his authority.

We read in the FT: "The crisis will leave many casualties. Particularly hard hit will be much of today’s financial risk-valuation system, significant parts of which failed under stress. Those of us who look to the self-interest of lending institutions to protect shareholder equity have to be in a state of shocked disbelief."...read it all

From Lew Rockwell, another view of the lay of the land ahead of us...

Prometheus, With the Cuffs On
by Bill Bonner

Money carries no passport, but it slides through almost any border. It flies no flag, but it is welcome in almost every nation. It speaks no language, but when it talks, everyone listens. But for all its passe-partout appeal, money has more enemies than friends. And the biggest threat is probably the financial industry itself.

"Don’t worry," the bright young man at a London private banking told us, "we maintain the highest levels of professionalism and use the most sophisticated tools of modern portfolio management."

That was just what we were worried about. What follows is a lament...and a complaint...about the current state of people in the financial métier: they have been disabled by their own theories...handicapped by their own greasy trade...read it all

Being obedient in Our voting

When it came to needing community leadership, in a nutshell, God instructs his people to choose amongst themselves men, having wisdom, and fearing him.

This weekend Jerry had us in Ezra. Now at chpt7:10 shows a qualification of Ezra which I think was why God had him leading the people. For Ezra had had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach the statutes and ordnances in Israel.

So rather than thinking your throwing away your vote on someone who has no chance of being elected, or being stampeded to “ we must vote for whoever will keep out_____ ( fill in the blank)” It is paramount that we instead seek to be obedient to God. Even if all of the Christian community wound up voting for their respective uncles, as Wilson used as an example, we would be better positioned as a people for God to move on our behalf then if we set aside HIS principles in the name of winning.

I am tired of winning elections and then our leaders acting like the people we were trying to defeat.

We must trust God rather than the reason of our minds. Its not our being unified on a candidate that is important but rather that the Lord see his people unified in obedience to his word.

If you still struggle with this, it’s probably because you still haven’t Heard
Swansons talk from our UCFC conference back in oct. Its an idol smasher.
I leave you with a quotation from Otto Scotts 1991 article on the “The shape of events” which illustrates what can happen when a small number will continue to stand.

Tolstoi, in his War and Peace , described how the Battle of Borodino, which determined Napoleons defeat in Russia , was decided by the fact that one battery, unaware of the Russian order to retreat, kept firing. The French, in the confusion, mistook that unceasing cannonade as a sign that their offensive had failed, and themselves retreated. But the battery never knew what it had done, nor did any other branch of the Russian army….

This battle I believe involved about 200,000 men, hundreds of artillery pieces and tens of thousands of cavalry. Decided by one battery, about 8- 12 artillery pieces. Yes this smells of the finger of God too. We stand on Gods word with, as Jason kept stressing this weekend, faith, that God is in control of the results no matter what it looks like to our eyes.

Christians Believe that their own God is a Harsh Master

This is just an awesome post from Douglas Wilsons Blog and Mablog! This way of thinking can be so hard for us modern evangelicals to see. god help us to see with your eyes. Give us vision, your vision!

Yahweh for Sunshine and Baal for Rain
Topic: Politics

There are really two basic questions when it comes to questions of theocracy. The first is erroneously thought to be a genuine question -- whether or not we should have a theocracy, whether there will be a god who rules over any given culture. The fact that this is even believed to be a coherent question is one of the central confusions of our age. Every society has a god, every society has a highest authority in the lives of those governed. To deny such an authority is not to destroy "theocracy" but rather to destroy society itself. The question is not whether god, but rather which god. Will it be God the Father, Demos, Allah, Mammon, or Hugo Chavez?

Notes on Californias Homeschool Squeeze

About the California usurpation of Gods role for parents. Mostly to clarify for myself ,here are some observations.

This is how successful government schooling has been. It inculcated wrong views into us. (There is nothing public about it other than they take our tax money to do it. That so many of us still call it “public” is another win for them.) We have gone from the legal concept and constraint that the US government is limited in authority and reach. To one where we accept without a thought things like… Well the government can do whatever it wants, but if there is something we want to do, we need to see if its legal.

Its been flipped around instead of seeing the state as limited unless the people grant it power ,we think we must be granted the right to do things.

We have been trained to accept that… as the starting point.

For so many , we think in these terms, that unless we can get a law or amendment passed saying that X,Y or Z is allowed, then we don’t have a right to do it. We also run to the machinery of government because we have stopped just declaring “thus says the Lord!.” We now feel we need a man declared law to back up Gods claim. We believe that we must get the state to bless that which God has declared or established. I don’t even think we see that this is how we think.

When you stop and think about it seems we modern evangelicals have given more respect and deference to the state then we ever did to God. We have given govt the absolutely widest interpretation possible of Romans 13.
So long as we don’t have to deny Christ , most believers are perfectly willing to let the state be a free range chicken doing whatever it wants.

But it is hard for us to lift off that deference from the state and place it on God. Even though the word is just full of phrases like, “the earth is the Lords and everything in it (psalms),and, that Christ has been raised far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come and he put all things und his feet and gave him to be the head over all things to the church. (eph1:21-22)

Now stop! I swear, that for years I read that verse and thought that it was proclaiming Christ as head over all things to the church. It does. But because of my training to see life as Secular and Sacred, I totally missed Gods claim for his Son to be lord over every atom and every second! And along with that….. he is head over all things to the church.

The state keeps making these little exact claims on this or about that. And with the compartmentalized way we have been trained to see life we totally miss the absoluteness of “ that in all things he may have preeminence”(col 1:18) which all by itself should really help put Romans 13 into a better light.

Because it doesn’t seem like God has made claims as clear as the state. Even though Gods word doesn’t exactly spell something out like some modern Law, so we think his word is silent on X,Y or Z. But HE is to have preeminence over ALL things. Even though its not spelled out for all of our compartmentalized views of life.

Now this threatens the modern Christian and Churchs ability to be a free range chickens like the state and I think it has something to do with why, so much of the word....can seem fuzzy.

Rome opposed and persecuted the early church just because it knew that they worshipped a God that placed his authority over Rome and its empire. That actually the Roman empire can be seen as just another nation raised up by God for his own purpose and pleasure.

We boxed God in and couldn’t see how our faith was supposed to affect how we see everything. Because we stopped proclaiming the authority of Christ over every area of life it was just a matter of time before the State was able to step into this vacuum and provide its definitions, and its understanding. This was mostly accomplished through the Schools.

It has reached the place where the State feels competent and thinks that it has a higher claim over not only what, but how children are taught. That it , the state has the right, that it, is the highest authority when it comes to education.

And after 80yrs of God believing Christians turning their children over to the state and seeing nothing wrong with it, why shouldn’t the state think it knows best?

I become more and more convinced the problem is with us and not the state.

Another Little Hiccup for the Markets Today

So barely two days after the fed throws an oil tankers weight in money at the markets and one day after the people from Standard and Poors experts tell us about how the worst is now behind us. One of the largest most famous financial houses blows up. The following is a write up from wikepedia about who Bear Stearns is.

In 2005-2007, Bear Stearns was recognized as the "Most Admired" securities firm in Fortune’s "America's Most Admired Companies" survey, and second overall in the security firm section. The annual survey is a prestigious ranking of employee talent, quality of management and business innovation. This marks the second time in the past three years that Bear Stearns has achieved this top distinction. However, by August, 2007, shares in the firm reached a one year low as a result of Bear Stearns symbolizing troubles emanating from the U.S. subprime mortgage market. [2]

They are huge.... and what mr Paul Nolte said today is dead on.

"People realized that Bear Stearns just came out the other day saying everything was fine," said Paul Nolte, director of investments at Hinsdale Associates. "So, two days later, why would they need this funding from the Fed and JP Morgan? If it's like that for them, what is it like for Merrill Lynch or for Thornburg Mortgage?"
Shares of Bear Stearns fell 34%.

This company wound up down 55% by the end of the day. Do what you can to get ready It looks to me like God is gonna shake us. By letting us reap what we have sown.

400 Point Dow Runup

What happened in the markets today?

“News that The Federal Reserve joined with other central banks Tuesday to extend its temporary lending program to provide more liquidity to global financial markets by increasing the funds it will make available and broadening the collateral it will accept beyond the highest rated mortgage lifted financial stocks”

The emphasis is mine. Can you imagine the local banks saying I will loan you $100,000 and rather than requiring an equal amount of some type of real collateral, they would be willing to take, your kids tree house, 2 old chevys, one runs, one doesn’t, and a bunch of IOU's in a paper bag ,from people that the bank doesnt even .

The fed has just finished making and throwing 200 billion dollars at the banks and wall street today. He is willing to take as collateral those security instruments that are loaded with subprime junk. In other words the Fed is saying “ all that stuff you have, that no one will touch with a ten foot barge pole, I will take that as collateral for this 200 billion.”

Now the fed is not the government. But it is the US government, meaning us, who will get stuck with the paper bag and will have to pay off the 200 billion. Not to mention the other 200 billion last week.

But the real problem, is that we have, as people and a government, spent a ton of money, that we do not have for years now. This was a band aid today to try and forstall a day of reckoning before a presidential election. It doesn’t address the real issue that the banks are now really making sure you can repay before they loan out money.

Before they could make stupid loans, bundle them together and low and behold they could always find someone to buy those loans from them. That stopped over night in August. All around the world banks, hedge funds mutual funds have been stuck with whatever was in their hands when the music stopped playing.

So the central banks are trying to help hide what would be even more massive losses, that at some point they would have to declare, by taking it off the banks hands. But we will continue to slide deeper into recession because our economy has been addicted to money just being passed out like crazy to almost anyone who then would spend it on whatever their hearts desired. What the Fed did today will not bring that back.

I Like This Idea

Douglas Wilson had a stinging response to the California home schooling issue.

Speaking for Idaho, We Don't Mind

...Others say that some homeschoolers don't do an adequate job, and so it is in the state's interests to ensure that they do. Let me first grant the initial point, which is that some homeschoolers don't do an adequate job. How is that an argument for bringing in "quality control" from the king of all educational inadequate jobs -- the state? And having granted the initial point, let me propose a little contest -- let us compare SAT scores of all homeschooled California seniors and government school California seniors. Whoever loses has to be regulated by the other entity. If the homeschoolers lose, then the new law stands. If the government school loses, then we turn over the California Department of Education to a select committee of homeschooling moms. Ask them to fix it, or throw it away if it is beyond repair.

Having said this, let me make a comment on what this measure actually means. This is not really about the future of education in California, or even about the future of a lack of education in California. What this is is a government-mandated relocation program. ...whole thing here

2008 Men’s Prayer Advance

Once my daughter mentioned about the name of some “Retreat,” that doesn't sound like their taking dominion.

It was a quick day and half as my first impression. I definitely prefer using teachers from our ranks. They “know” where we are at and you can just use the teaching right out of the box.

Well, Legacy had 6 out of 8, fathers go, which I think was great. As a fellowship we had dropped to what looked like 6 families. But having made the case, biblically, for the need for, “membership”, “ who will be identified as members”, I think we stand with 7 families willing to be called members and we pass from being a “fellowship” to a "Church". (I was suprised that the subject of membership could give people the willys or that gluten is the antichrist, who knew?)

We have one new family that has just come into our midst and is still getting the lay of the land. We thank God for them too.
